Taking first trip down to Big Lake from Shreveport. Any tip on where I can get into a mess of specks this time of year? Would also like to grab a Bull Red or two. Gonna be there a couple of days. As much detail as possible would help (ie. Where to fish on incoming and outgoing tides)

Hey Bobby Im from stonewall

When are you going down ? I usually go down every two weeks If this is going to be a one off deal I recommend getting a guide, and getting a boat load!!

There are plenty of places to fish, but its called big lake for a reason, and if you don't know the area, it can be frustrating when theres no bites, keep in mind the fish move with the heat of the day, so unless you are in the know, might be tough for a first timer.

Like I said before if this is going to be a one off deal, Id recommend a guide, Jadams is always posting up his catch of the day. He always seems to know the fish, the bait, and the wheres and whens...........

If your not going to use a guide, I HIGHLY recommend getting a chart, there are lots of places you can run aground, Big Lake is BIG, but shallow!! Go to Bacons Bait and Tackle in Shreveport 318-686-6309, in the back RT corner hes got a small area for salt, hes got "Lake Calcasieu" charts there too, they are helpful and have a lot of GPS numbers.
Do some research, read up on articles, and read forums, study your fish
Here are some GENERAL rule of thumb areas

January
Big trout along the shorelines. Redfish along shipping channel.

February
Big trout on north end of lake. Redfish around oyster reefs.

March
Big trout on north end of lake. Keeper trout on reefs. Redfish on south end of lake.

April
Big trout along shorelines. Keeper trout and redfish under birds.

May
Trout and redfish around reefs and under birds. Some redfish along shorelines, as well. Good topwater action.

June
Trout over reefs on south end of lake and around jetties. Redfish along shorelines. Bull reds starting to show around jetties.

July
Trout around deep-water oyster reefs, jetties and along beachfront. Redfish schooled up in lake. Bull reds around jetties. Tripletail starting to show up around short rigs.

August
Trout and reds under schools of shad in lake. Reds along shorelines and around jetties. Spanish mackerel, trout, tripletail and ling (cobia) around short rigs

September
Trout and reds under schools of birds and around mid-lake reefs. Redfish in passes.

October
Trout and reds under birds, along shorelines and around reefs. Good topwater action. Flounder around cuts and drains.

November
Big trout on flats between fronts. School-size trout and redfish around reefs and under birds.

December
Some bird activity early in the month. Trout around reefs. Redfish all over the lake, around reefs and along shoreline

Hope this helps

Marty
