What are the regulations for tieing up to channel markers in a kayak? Is it illegal?

Shaw is correct. Not supposed to, but I see people doing it all the time.
USCG patrols around the plants and refineries, but not much towards the South.
So, be careful up North.

Not legal, Tried it once last year and within 20 minutes Coast Guard was there with 10 trainees on board telling me to untie and giving me a verbal warning. Said cannot tie to any channel marker, buoy and any other navigational aid. Never tried it again.

You can get an anchor and rode for cheaper than a ticket.
