Website says 8.5 ft. cast net. Read page 3 and page 7.

Also there is a no glass container rule I didn't know about.

yeah, I believe they changed the law from 5 to 8.5 a few years ago. Here is a link to the old regs: library.fws.gov/refuges/cameronprairie_fishing.pdf

They may have changed the rules this year but if they have, they have not posted them yet? I'll have to keep an eye on this one. Gerald, where is that sign @? Is it new or has it been there for awhile?

Recreational Shrimping Information
Recreational cast netting for shrimp is permitted during the Louisiana inshore waters shrimp season only. Cast nets must be less than 8.5 feet in radius. The daily shrimp limit is five gallons of heads-on shrimp per day, per vehicle or boat. Cast netting for bait is permitted year round. The shrimp limit, when cast netting for bait outside the Louisiana inshore waters shrimp season, is one gallon.

This statement is miss leading at best and can be considered incorrect. Note the size of cast nets on the sign is posted on the south bank as you approach the Grand Bayou weir. This picture was taken ~ 2 weeks ago.

I think these signs were put up ~ 1+ year after Rita.....this would be ~ 4 years ago. I have been doing some checking since my last post....but could not find anything posted on a web site other than.....Less than 8.5 feet radius. I guess this means a 8 net is legal.

I learned something a few weeks ago..... If you use a cast net that has 1/2" mesh all the glass minows, small shad and small shrimp will pass right through the net. You don't get them all caught in the net. Makes it much easier when trying to catch just shrimp.
