The Cameron Parish Fishing Festival is to be held on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 5-6 at the Cameron Jetty Pier Pavillion in Cameron Parish.
This is the 8th annual fishing festival sponsored by the Cameron Lions Club. The proceeds will be used as follows:
Donations to the Lions Crippled Children Camp, the Lions Eye Glass Foundation, Cameron Parish High Schools Scholarship Program, Cameron Parish
Youth Organizations, Church Groups and to provide eye glasses for the needy of Cameron parish.
The Cameron Fishing Festival has a Fishing Rodeo that has three divisions:
Offshore, bay, surf and a junior division with plaques awarded for the top three in each category. Trophies will be awarded for the outstanding
male and female angler in the offshore, bay, surf and junior divisions.
The Cameron Fishing Festival also has a team Redfish Tournament. The Redfish challenge is a team tournament in which a team is able to weigh in two redfish per day. These fish must be weighed in alive.
Additionally, they have to be between the slot length of 20- 27 inches with tail pinched. Any redfish shorter or longer will not be weighed. Dead fish will be weighed with an eight ounce penalty assessed per dead fish.
On Thursday, July 28, 6 - 8 p.m., the festival will kick off with Captain’s Night, a fish fry for those who purchase festival fishing tickets.
Door prizes will be presented. Discounted tickets, T-shirts and fishing shirts will be sold. All food and beverages will be provided free of charge.
In addition to fishing, plenty of onshore festivities are planned like fresh seafood, barbeque and local dishes from the area, live music for the whole family,
playground and waterslides, the blessing of the fishing fleet and beauty pageant.
There is a $5 gate fee each day and children under 12 are admitted free.
On Saturday, Aug. 6 at 10:30 a.m. the pageant will begin. This year’s pageant will be swimwear with eight girls divisions and three boys divisions. For details, call Recia Willis at 775-5316 or 370-4325.
There are a limited number of RV and camper spots available at the fair grounds on a first come, first served basis with a limit of one spot per caller. To reserve your space today call the Cameron Parish Police Jury at 775-5714 and ask for Rica.
