Trolling motors

I have a 17' hydra- sport , will a 50 lb thrust trolling motor do any good on it?

50lb will prolly only be 12 volt system it'll pull it but will drain the battery so fast u prolly wouldn't be able to work birds r beat banks from daylight till noon I'd get at least a 70lb 24volt just my input it's worth the extra I think ud be disappointed w the 50 and 2 months later ud be trying to upgrade I'd say 70-80lb and u good

Thanks for the advice, I wasn't sure. I definitely want to get one I can work birds with.

Jared is right on.

I had a 55# thrust (12V) on my 15' boat. When I bought a new boat I got a 16.5' with a 70# 24 volt and it does much better.

If you get in some stiff tides, that 50# trolling motor won't help you much.

These guys are right on. The boat I use is a 17.5 fiberglass flat with a 71# 24v trolling motor . The power and speed it provides comes in very handy. I've worked myself off of a hard bottom flat when the tide left me on the bottom. Plus, I can make a short run against the current without having to start the outboard.
