I still have the stock aluminum prop on my 25 Mercury and am looking to upgrade to stainless. Would someone advise on the proper pitch and anything else to consider? I use the boat in lacassine, as well as the open waters of the lake. Suggestions on where to get the best deal is also appreciated. Thanks.

The pitch depends on several factors. Typically a 25hp motor will require a 12-13 pitch prop. You may want to talk to a Mercury daler/mechanic first. I know my yamaha 25's I had needed a 13 pitch, a 12 with some cup worked ok too though. The smaller the pitch the better the hole shot and the larger the pitch the better the top end. If your pitch is too small you will turn too many rpm's, too big and it's not enough rpm's. If I had to take a shot in the dark I would go with a powertech 13 pitch prop, good all around prop for a small motor

It depends on the size and weight of the boat, and how much weight you are going to have in the boat.
You are supposed to be able to get to the manufacurers wide open RPM, with a normal load. But the
25 doesn't have a tach on it.
I would talk to a prop shop, there is one just East of Gene's Marine, or call a Mercury dealer, they know
how to prop a boat/motor combo.
You can also go to the Mercury or Quicksilver site, they have prop info. also.

I have a merc 25 with a 12 pitch stainless prop. Its on a 1648 semi alweld. Hole shot is decent for as heavy as the boat is. I would recommend to NOT go to the prop place east of Genes marine. He has f#@ked more people than our government. You will be fine with just about any 12 pitch. The 13 might hurt your low end performance in the marsh. Do you have it on a jackplate??
