2011 Top Bag Kayak Fishing Tournament

Saturday, April 30th, 2011
The Top Bag Tournament is a tackle bag exchange tournament. You submit a small tackle bag of plastic swimbaits and a spinner or spoon. We pull names that morning and you fish with the bag pulled. You are allowed 1 wildcard lure of choice, 1 cork and leader. Your stringer may include up to 5 fish containing Redfish, Trout and/or Flounder. If the winner uses your bag you win the Top Bag pot. Sportsmans Paradise Lodge and Restaurant in Chauvin, LA, (985) 594-2414. They have motel rooms and trailers for rent and restaurant. Chauvin is centrally located for accessing Cocodrie, Dulac, Dularge and Point Aux Chiene WMA. You can also launch across the street in Bayou Pitit Caillou.


All our events follow the club's general rules here plus rules below.
ENTRY: $25 (+ $1.25 via PayPal) + Tackle Bag
REGISTER: Open to public until Sat Apr 30, 5:00 a.m.
LAUNCH TIME: 6:00 a.m. Before then you may launch, sit in your kayak, ready to depart at 6:00 a.m..
LAUNCH BOUNDARIES: Any publicly accessible launch between Terrebonne Parish East to Hwy 665.
TACKLE EXCHANGE: At 5:00 a.m.- 5:30 a.m. at the Sportsmans Paradise Restaurant. Anglers are required to attend.
TACKLE BAG RULES: Your bag must include- 6 plastic baits for jigheads (up to 2 may include “Tsunami”-Type swim baits) and 1 spoon or 1 redfish spinnerbait. Your baits must fit 1/8 - 3/4 oz jigheads. Plastics must be new (Gulp and color varieties ok). At 5:30 a.m. you may leave for your launch destination.
INSTRUCTIONS: Bring a ziplock bag(s) & include lures listed in a grocery bag. The bag you pull is what you must fish with. If the 1st place winner uses your bag you win the Top Bag Pot.
CONSIDERATIONS: 1) You could pull your bag. 2) The top bag that contributes to 1st place wins the prize.
ACCEPTED TACKLE: The following tackle only may be on your kayak. You must present your wildcard lure at the tackle exchange: 1 wildcard lure of your choice (e.g., 1 topwater or 1 Rat-l-trap or 1 Plastic Bait) and 5 jigheads and/or hooks of any sizes. You may also carry 1 cork and leader material.
LEGAL FISH TIME: 6:00 a.m. - 2 p.m.
LEGAL 5 FISH: Total weight of up to 5 fish that may consist of any combination of Redfish, Speckled Trout and/or Flounder. LA DWF minimum lengths/regulations apply and include: Trout 12" min, Flounder 10" min and Slot Redfish (16-27”) with only 1 Redfish over 27".
SIGN-IN: Anglers must sign-in between 1:00 p,m. - 2 p.m. across the street from the Sportsman’s Lodge (at the dock on the river)- 6830 Highway 56, Chauvin, LA 70344-2611.
WEIGH-IN: Across the street from the Sportsman's Paradise at 2 PM. Have your 5 fish ready to weigh-in when called.
PAYOUTS: $5 of each entry goes towards the Top Bag Pot and $10 to the tourney pot. 1st = 50% / 2nd = 30% / 3rd = 20%..
