Minn Kota iPilot

Postby Sbill1 » Wed Jan 29, 2014 2:07 pm

Anyone use the iPilot for anchoring in rough wind and tide conditions. Thought about installing a power pole, but now I am considering just upgrading my trolling motor to a 100 lb thrust iPilot with GPS anchor. It would be cheaper and more versatile in deeper water. Any thoughts or suggestions about this option?

My opinion, it will make a lot of noise in rough weather. But just my thinking. I don't have any experience with the ipilot.
Turning the motor and bow bobbing up and down, powering up and down... ect.
I don't like noise when fishing Trout.

I use the I-Pilot GPS anchor on Big Lake when I make my annual trip. It works well but I am concerned about the noise especially with the trolling motor going all the time in windy conditions. I considered the Power Pole but decided not to since I only fish BL 1 week a year and my local lake is 80 ft deep and deeper in most places. I have made a couple of stick-it-pins to anchor with on my next trip, they cost very little and if they don't work, I am not out much money. If you do use the I-Pilot GPS for long periods, remember, a 36 Volt system will give you more use time. I would hate to use all my battery on Anchor Lock and then have no juice later in day if I need it.

good advice. noisy trolling motor flopping out of the water may limit fishing potential.

What I said wasn't gospel. Just how I think.
Staying in one place with a trolling motor, will have to run it a lot. Start/stop/turn... ect.
