VoIP Phones

I have been looking into voice over IP phone service for quite some time. I had an unreliable internet connection with a cable provider but I switched carriers & I now have fiber optic. The speed is great and the service has never gone out. Cameron Communications is freaking SWEET! Anyway, I was looking into getting magic jack or vonage & I really couldn't make myself go through with it. Well work has been a little slow lately & I am looking for a way to pinch pennies so today I made the switch.

I decided to go with service from . I got the Ooma Telo for $199 on amazon.com & I'll be able to keep my current # for a 1 time fee of $39.99. The phone will run off of the internet & will only cost me $3.47 a month, rather than the $100 I'm currently paying.

Does anyone else have VoIP service? If so, how do you like it? I'll keep you guys updated & let you know how it turns out. Wish me luck!

I don't have a house phone.
When I lived in Cameron, they had the 3D. Phone, internet and cable on fiber.
They were the first in this area to have it, way the hell down there.
It was nice. But no one called my phone. We don't use it at all. Gone.

I've had vonage for the last 3 years and I really like it. My wife can call home (overseas) for way cheaper than with any hardline carriers and I don't get any telemarketers. Only tricky thin is the 911 service, you have to have your address handy because it may not be your local 911 operator who picks up.

Well I got over ruled by the wife & she has decided to bundle our phone service through the cable company rather than going with the fine folks @ Ooma. Somehow I am not surprised! This is going to cost me $32 / month vs. $3.47 / month with Ooma.

When I get home Wednesday I am going to get myself some adult beverages & go fishing to make myself feel better about this.

She actually did have a decent reason for going with the cable company. Apparently with Ooma, my home security system would not work properly & call Five-o in the event of a break-in. Anyway, the cable dude is supposed to be here some time tomorrow to swap us over. I'll let you guys know how that works out. here's to saving $70 a month!

I got magic jack, so far so good. $19.95 a year no monthly bill, gotta love it.
